Domaine de la Solitude has been in the Châteauneuf-du-Pape since 1720, and the red Tradition cuvée is the estate's flagship.
This one is a fairly big, brooding wine that is mainly old-vine Grenache with Syrah and Mourvèdre making up most of the rest, plus small dashes of Cinsault and Counoise.
On the nose you'll get blackcurrent and green herbs and on the palate rich cocoa and cherry through to that signature liquorice length. This is a fully bodied red with lots of rich fruits and spices and fine, soft tannins.
James Suckling scored it 95/100, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate 92/100.
We would recommend buying to cellar (3-5 years) or if you can't wait to try then decant before drinking.
This is one to pair with something substantial to eat, a slow-cooked lamb shoulder, beef cheek or something equally hearty.
