Ata Rangi have been one of Martinborough's benchmark producers for decades, mostly known for their Pinot Noir, but this is their first ever crack at Chenin Blanc.
Fresh and baked apple aromas with pear, a touch of leesy complexity and a fine clay-earth note. Give it a swirl and it opens up further into flowers and blossom.
It's a properly dry style with a silky texture and a good line of acidity running through it. I love Chenin Blanc and this is a great example of one. The acidity is key and makes it an interesting wine to drink with refreshing acidity. Very easy to food match too and would suit most seafood, chicken or salad dishes.
Cameron Douglas MS scored it 95 points and reckons it'll drink well from 2027 right through to 2035 and beyond so there's no rush. Though it's just as happy opened tonight (as I have done). Delicious.
